Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Grand Theft Auto (GTA)'s parent company Take-Two Interactive, has commented on his current approach to managing the company's intellectual properties during the company's Q2 2025 investor call.

In response to a question about consumer behavior and reception to new projects, Zelnick noted that they are best known for their established IPs, including titles from developer Rockstar Games such as the GTA and Red Dead Redemption (RDR) series. However, Zelnick also stated that he foresees a future where their established IPs will not hold the same significance for the company, or for players, as they do now and have over the past two decades since the games' releases.

According to transcriptions by PCGamer, Zelnick remarked on potential sequels for GTA and RDR, stating, "We understand that releasing a sequel presents less risk than developing new intellectual property. But everything deteriorates. And although most of our franchise sequels outperform their predecessors—a source of considerable pride, as this isn't industry standard—the reality is that decay and entropy exist. It's a law of physics, human existence, and everything terrestrial."

He further opined that without innovation and new IP, Take-Two risks "burning the furniture to heat the house." He elaborated, "Therefore, everything eventually deteriorates, including successful titles. So, if we aren't innovating and creating new intellectual property, to say we're resting on our laurels is an understatement. We're genuinely risking burning the furniture to heat the house. And that doesn't end well."

However, regarding releases of established IPs, Zelnick told Variety in an interview that they plan to spread out major game launches. "I think it’s safe to say that we wouldn’t, and no one would, release many big titles concurrently," he said. As Take-Two hasn't specified a launch window for GTA 6 beyond next year's Fall, Zelnick also noted it won't be close to Borderlands 4's release, scheduled for Spring 2025/2026, between April 1, 2025 and March 31, 2026.

Moreover, Judas aims to be an experience where players shape how relationships and the story Progress, according to creator Ken Levine.
