Borderlands Movie's Poor Reviews Aren't Its Only ProblemsEli Roth's Borderlands movie is off to a disastrous start, with overwhelmingly negative reviews. Rotten Tomatoes currently shows a dismal 6% rating from 49 critics. Critics have been scathing; Donald Clarke of the Irish Times suggested viewers might wish for a "skip" button to avoid the film's perceived flaws, while Amy Nicholson of the New York Times, while praising some design aspects, found the humor lacking.

Early social media reactions echoed the critical consensus, describing the film as "lifeless," "terrible," and "uninspired." However, a segment of Borderlands fans and general moviegoers expressed a more positive view, appreciating the action and crude humor, though some noted plot discrepancies. The audience score on Rotten Tomatoes is a slightly more favorable 49%.

Beyond the negative reviews, a production staff member, Robbie Reid, a freelance rigger who worked on the Claptrap character, publicly revealed on Twitter (X) that he and the character's modeler received no film credit. Reid expressed disappointment, particularly given his prior consistent crediting on previous projects. He speculated that the omission might be linked to him and the artist leaving their studio in 2021, acknowledging that this is a common, albeit unfortunate, industry issue. He concluded by expressing broader concern about the industry's treatment and crediting of artists.
