Project Mugen Is Now Called Ananta, Devs Drop New Trailer

Announcing Ananta: The Rebranded Project Mugen Open-World RPG

Remember Project Mugen, the highly anticipated urban open-world RPG from Naked Rain and NetEase? It's had a name change! Now known as Ananta, this title, initially unveiled at Gamescom 2023, has finally released a new trailer after a long period of silence. More details are promised on December 5th, but for now, feast your eyes on the official trailer:

The Mystery of the Name Change

The developers haven't yet commented on the reason for the rebranding. Interestingly, Ananta, meaning "infinite" in Sanskrit, mirrors the meaning of Mugen (also "infinite"). The Chinese title reinforces this thematic consistency.

The gaming community is divided on the name change, but universally relieved the project hasn't been canceled. Comparisons are already being drawn between Ananta and Hotta Studio's upcoming RPG, Neverness to Everness. While Ananta's trailer is visually impressive, the lack of gameplay footage gives Neverness to Everness a perceived advantage for some players. Personally, I find Ananta's aesthetic more captivating.

A Curious Social Media Strategy

Adding to the intrigue, the Project Mugen team has deleted all their original social media accounts, including a YouTube channel boasting over 100,000 subscribers and millions of video views. Only their Discord server remains, simply renamed to reflect the new title. This decision to start fresh with new accounts, rather than simply renaming existing ones, has left many gamers puzzled.

Ananta's Premise

In Ananta, you assume the role of an Infinite Trigger, a supernatural investigator combating paranormal threats. The game features a cast of characters including Taffy, Bansy, Alan, Mechanika, and Dila.
