The resignation stemmed from an attempt by the staff, led by former president Nathan Gary, to establish Annapurna Interactive as an independent entity. These efforts were unsuccessful, leading to the mass exodus.

According to Bloomberg, Gary confirmed the collective resignation of all 25 team members, stating it was a difficult but necessary decision.

Annapurna Pictures’ Megan Ellison has assured partners of their commitment to ongoing projects and expansion in interactive entertainment, stating a desire for more integrated storytelling across various media.

The impact of this event is significant. Indie developers who collaborated with Annapurna Interactive now face uncertainty regarding existing agreements. Remedy Entertainment, whose Control 2 was partially funded by Annapurna Interactive, clarified via its communications director that their deal is with Annapurna Pictures and they are self-publishing Control 2.

Annapurna Interactive has appointed Hector Sanchez, a co-founder, as the new president. Sources suggest Sanchez plans to honor existing contracts and fill the vacant positions. This follows a broader restructuring announced over a week ago, including the departures of Gary and other key figures. The company's commitment to its existing projects remains to be seen.
