Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions are teaming up to bring the acclaimed video game Helldivers 2 to the silver screen, as announced at CES 2025. Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions, made the exciting reveal, stating, "We're thrilled to announce the commencement of development on a film adaptation of our incredibly popular game, Helldivers 2." While specifics remain under wraps, fans can anticipate spectacular space battles brought to life on the big screen.

Developed by Arrowhead Studios, Helldivers 2, a shooter reminiscent of Starship Troopers, has achieved phenomenal success. It secured the title of PlayStation Studios' fastest-selling project, boasting 12 million copies sold within its first 12 weeks. The game's popularity surged further with the Illuminate update, reintroducing a beloved enemy faction from the original Helldivers.

This cinematic venture follows the already announced Horizon Zero Dawn film adaptation, a collaboration between PlayStation Productions and Columbia Pictures (the studio behind the successful 2022 Uncharted movie). Qizilbash offered a preliminary glimpse into the Horizon Zero Dawn project: "We're in the early stages of production for the Horizon Zero Dawn movie, but we can assure audiences that this world and its characters will receive their first-ever cinematic treatment."
