PS5 New Beta Update Brings Several QoL Improvements

Sony's latest PlayStation 5 beta update enhances the gaming experience with several quality-of-life improvements, following the recent addition of URL game session sharing. This article details the new features and beta participation.

Enhanced Gaming Experience: Key Features of the Beta Update

Announced by Sony's VP of Product Management, Hiromi Wakai, the beta update introduces personalized 3D audio profiles, improved Remote Play controls, and adaptive charging for controllers.

Personalized 3D audio allows users to fine-tune audio settings for their headphones or earbuds (like the Pulse Elite or Pulse Explore) via sound tests, creating a more immersive soundscape. This improves positional audio accuracy within games.

The enhanced Remote Play settings provide greater control over remote access to the PS5, particularly beneficial for households with multiple users. Access can be restricted to specific individuals via the console's settings menu: Settings > System > Remote Play > Enable Remote Play.

Adaptive charging for controllers (on the slim PS5 model) optimizes power consumption in rest mode by adjusting charging based on battery level. This is enabled through: Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode > Supply Power to USB Ports > Adaptive.

Beta Participation and Global Rollout

Currently, the beta is limited to select users in the U.S., Canada, Japan, U.K., Germany, and France. Invited participants will receive an email with download instructions. Note that features may change or be removed before the full release based on user feedback.

Sony emphasizes the value of community feedback in shaping these updates. The company anticipates a global release in the coming months.

This beta follows the Version 24.05-09.60.00 update, which introduced URL sharing for open game sessions. This allows players to share a link (via QR code) to invite others to join. The new beta expands upon this social feature with further refinements and personalization options.
