EA Unveils Apex Legends 2.0 Following Battlefield

Author:Kristen Update:Mar 13,2025

EA's recent financial call revealed that while Apex Legends boasts a massive player base exceeding 200 million, its revenue isn't meeting expectations. CEO Andrew Wilson acknowledged the game's success but highlighted the need for a significant shift to improve its financial trajectory. He emphasized continued support for the existing community through quality-of-life improvements, anti-cheat measures, and new content. While some progress has been made, it hasn't been enough to meet EA's goals.

To address this, EA is developing Apex Legends 2.0, a major update aiming to reinvigorate the franchise, attract new players, and boost revenue. However, the release is planned for after the next Battlefield title, likely sometime in EA's 2027 fiscal year. Wilson envisions Apex Legends as a long-lasting franchise, capable of sustained growth and future updates beyond Apex Legends 2.0. The company remains committed to its existing tens of millions of players while also working to attract new audiences.

The planned overhaul is reminiscent of Activision's Warzone 2.0 reboot, a move with mixed results. While Apex Legends maintains a strong presence on Steam's concurrent player count charts, it's past its peak and trending downward. EA will undoubtedly be studying the successes and failures of competitors in the battle royale market as it develops its strategy for Apex Legends 2.0.
