"Ygwulf

In the early stages of *Avowed*'s main quest, "Untimely End," the Envoy, the player's character, falls victim to a tragic assassination. Through clever detective work alongside Kai and Marius in Paradis, you uncover that the assassin is none other than Ygwulf, a member of the Paradisan Rebels fiercely resisting Aedyr's presence in the area. As the emperor's Envoy, you become a prime target for their cause.

Your journey leads you to track down Ygwulf to his underground hideout, necessitating clearing the area of enemies and overcoming platforming challenges. It's wise to stock up on Health Potions and equip the best gear available for this venture. As you navigate the dungeon, you may stumble upon documents that reveal Ygwulf's true intentions and his subsequent remorse. Initially driven by misguided visions from the Gods, Ygwulf comes to regret his actions and expresses this remorse when you finally confront him, showing a willingness to face justice.

What Happens If You Spare Ygwulf or He Turns Himself In?

Choosing to have Ygwulf turn himself in to the Inquisitor of the Steel Garrote is not recommended. If you direct him to surrender, he will face the brutal wrath of Inquisitor Lödwyn, which implies a painful demise. This option yields fewer rewards compared to sparing him or defeating him in combat. If you decide to spare Ygwulf, he offers you 625 Copper Skeyt and a bit of Adra as a token of gratitude for your mercy. However, despite your leniency, Ygwulf's fate remains sealed, and he is ultimately killed later in the story.

Why You Should Kill Ygwulf in Avowed

Given that Ygwulf's destiny is inevitably death, the optimal choice is to engage him in combat by selecting the Attack option during your dialogue. This decision not only provides valuable combat experience for future encounters but also ensures you receive the best loot. Upon defeating Ygwulf, you can loot his body for currency, Adra, and his unique armor set, Blackwing. Beyond its striking appearance, Blackwing offers significant advantages, including a +30% damage boost when attacking from stealth and a 25% movement speed increase when crouching, enhancing your ability to navigate stealthily.

Does Ygwulf's Fate Affect the Story in Avowed?

Despite being an early-game encounter, Ygwulf's fate has a subtle impact on the ending of *Avowed*. After the final gameplay section, you'll witness art and narration that reflect the consequences of your decisions throughout the Living Lands. Regardless of your efforts to bring peace and unity to the region, Ygwulf's death will radicalize the Paradisan Rebellion, perpetuating their violent resistance against your efforts even after the story concludes.
