Retro Royale Mode: Clash Royale revisits the past

Author:Kristen Update:Apr 05,2025

Supercell is taking fans of *Clash Royale* on a nostalgic journey with the introduction of the new Retro Royale Mode, which harks back to the game's launch year of 2017. This limited-time event, running from March 12th to March 26th, offers players a chance to dive into the past with a unique set of rewards up for grabs. As you ascend the 30-step Retro Ladder, you'll be competing for Gold and Season Tokens, making every match a thrilling challenge.

In my recent coverage about Supercell's decision to remove Troop Training times in *Clash of Clans*, I highlighted their strategy of constantly refreshing their flagship titles. It's clear this approach isn't limited to just one game, as *Clash Royale* celebrates its latest anniversary with a trip down memory lane. The Retro Royale Mode, unveiled through an exciting trailer, promises to immerse players in the original 2017 meta and card pool, restricted to a nostalgic set of 80 cards.

The competitive spirit intensifies as you progress up the Retro Ladder. Once you hit the Competitive League, your starting rank will be determined by your progress on the Tropy Road. From there, your performance in Retro Royale will dictate your climb up the leaderboard, offering a platform to showcase your enduring skills.

Yet, there's a clear distinction between feeling outdated and evoking nostalgia. With enticing rewards on the table, it's hard to imagine fans not wanting to dive in and experience the throwback. Plus, there's an extra incentive: participate in both the Retro Ladder and the Competitive League at least once, and you'll earn a special badge for each.
