Exciting news for fans of the iconic franchise: Power Rangers is gearing up for a live-action series on Disney+. According to The Wrap, the talented duo behind the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz, are in discussions to write, showrun, and produce this thrilling new addition to the Power Rangers universe for Disney+ and 20th Century TV.

Hasbro, the current owner of the Power Rangers brand, aims to breathe new life into the series. Their goal is to captivate a fresh generation of viewers while keeping the loyal fanbase engaged. This innovative approach promises to bring a modern twist to the beloved franchise.

The original '90s TV show, The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, became a cultural phenomenon. It captured the hearts of a generation with its teenage superheroes and their impressive mechs, which could merge to create a formidable giant robot.

In 2018, Hasbro acquired the Power Rangers franchise from Saban Properties in a landmark deal valued at $522 million. At the time, Hasbro's chairman and CEO, Brian Goldner, highlighted the brand's "tremendous upside potential." He emphasized the extensive opportunities for Power Rangers across various platforms, including toys, games, consumer products, digital gaming, and entertainment, with a strong focus on global expansion.

This acquisition followed the unsuccessful 2017 movie reboot, which attempted to give Power Rangers a darker, grittier edge to set the stage for sequels. However, due to disappointing box office results, these plans were abandoned, leading Saban to sell the rights to Hasbro shortly thereafter.

Hasbro's ambitions don't stop with Power Rangers. The company is also developing a live-action Dungeons & Dragons series titled The Forgotten Realms at Netflix, an animated Magic: The Gathering series, also at Netflix, and a cinematic universe centered around Magic: The Gathering. These projects highlight Hasbro's commitment to expanding its iconic brands into new and exciting territories.
