Fallout 76 Season 20 Out Now

Unleash the Ghoul Within

Bethesda has rolled out Season 20 of Fallout 76, aptly named "The Ghoul Within," bringing a host of ghoul-related features to the game. Announced via an article on their website on March 18, this update is now live, offering players the chance to embrace their inner Ghoul through a process called Ghoulification, initiated by completing the "Leap of Faith" questline. This journey takes players into a previously unexplored part of the Savage Divide, introducing new characters crucial to the transformation process.

Upon becoming a Ghoul, players unlock two exclusive abilities: Glow and Feral. The Feral ability replaces traditional hunger and thirst mechanics with a Feral meter that, when full, enhances different stats. However, letting the meter drop to 0% drastically alters gameplay, offering a +150% boost to Melee Damage but at the cost of significant reductions in Endurance, Charisma, Max HP, Max AP, and both Hip-fire and V.A.T.S. Accuracy.

The Glow ability, on the other hand, lets players consume radiation, granting immunity to diseases and mutations, and even causing them to emit a visible glow. This ability also boosts maximum health, heals damage, and enhances Ghoul-exclusive Perks, or "Gherks." Players have access to 28 Ghoul-specific perks and two new legendary perks, though traditional perks related to Hunger, Thirst, and Chem Resistance are unavailable to Ghouls.

A Day In The Life of A Ghoul

Fallout 76 Ghoul Update Details

Life as a Ghoul in Fallout 76's wasteland offers unique advantages, such as easier navigation through radiation-heavy areas, thanks to the new abilities and perks. However, it also presents challenges, like hostility from factions such as the Brotherhood of Steel, potentially limiting access to certain questlines. To mitigate this, players can utilize disguises provided by a new NPC, Jaye, allowing them to interact with content that would otherwise be inaccessible.

If the Ghoul lifestyle doesn't suit a player, they can revert to human form through the Character Screen. This decision is irreversible without purchasing the Ghoul Retransformation for 1000 Atoms.

The Season 20 update also introduces a Level 50 Character Boost, available for 1500 Atoms. This boost is designed to help both new and veteran players quickly access multiplayer features like Daily Ops and Public Events, as well as some story content.

Alongside these new features, the update includes numerous bug fixes, balance tweaks, and enhancements to accessibility, combat, and weapon damage. Bethesda has also teased the next update, "The Big Bloom," set for April 29, as part of their ongoing season calendar.

Since its rocky launch in November 2018, Fallout 76 has undergone significant improvements, now boasting a "Mostly Positive" rating on Steam, with 76% of its reviews being positive. The game is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC, continuing to evolve with updates like Season 20.
