Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream's announcement on Twitter (X) has become Nintendo Japan's most liked tweet, eclipsing the excitement surrounding the Switch 2. Announced during the Nintendo Direct on March 27, the tweet for Tomodachi Life garnered over 400,000 likes, surpassing the Switch 2's reveal in January, which received approximately 385,000 likes.

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is the latest installment in the popular life-simulation series that revolves around Nintendo's digital avatars inhabiting an island. The series kicked off with Tomodachi Collection, released exclusively in Japan for the Nintendo DS in 2009, which sold over 100,000 copies in its first week. Its sequel, Tomodachi Collection: New Life, launched on the 3DS in Japan in 2013, became a massive hit, selling over 6.7 million copies and ranking among the 3DS's top-selling titles. This success led to its Western release as Tomodachi Life in 2014.

According to Nintendo, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream allows players to "Create your own Mii characters based on yourself, friends, family – anyone! – and watch them live their lives on an island out at sea. Get involved with their relationships and experience all the weird and wonderful ways these Mii characters interact. You may even drop in on their dreams!"

Tomodachi Life's New Game More Hyped in Japan Than The Switch 2

The reveal trailer for Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream has sparked significant interest among fans, who have meticulously analyzed the video for new features. The trailer showcases created Mii characters, familiar island locales, and various Mii interactions. A notable change that has captured fans' attention is the addition of ears to Mii characters.

This modification has prompted a flurry of reactions across social media platforms. On Twitter (X), one user expressed hope that this feature would be adopted in the Switch 2's Mii character creation. On Reddit, discussions have focused on how this change makes Miis appear more human-like, opening up possibilities for accessories such as earrings. However, some fans prefer the option to revert to the original earless design.

Despite these varied opinions, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream has undoubtedly generated substantial buzz following its reveal. The game is slated for release on the Nintendo Switch in 2026.
