Suikoden Remaster Revives Beloved Franchise

After more than a decade of absence, the beloved Suikoden series is poised for a triumphant return. The upcoming HD remaster of the first two games aims to reignite the franchise's popularity and pave the path for future installments.

Suikoden Remaster: A New Generation of Heroes

The Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster promises a revitalized experience for classic JRPG fans. In a recent interview, Director Tatsuya Ogushi and Lead Planner Takahiro Sakiyama expressed their hopes that the remaster will not only introduce the series to a new generation of gamers but also rekindle the enthusiasm of longtime players.

According to a Famitsu interview (translated via Google), Ogushi and Sakiyama envision the remaster as a springboard for future Suikoden titles. Ogushi, deeply connected to the series, paid tribute to the late Yoshitaka Murayama, the series creator. Sakiyama, who directed Suikoden V, expressed his strong desire to reintroduce Suikoden to a wider audience, hoping to see the IP flourish in the years to come.

Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster: Enhanced and Refined

Based on the 2006 Japan-exclusive PlayStation Portable collection, the HD Remaster brings these classic JRPGs to modern platforms with significant improvements.

The visuals have been significantly enhanced, featuring high-definition backgrounds and polished pixel art sprites. Expect richly detailed environments, from the grandeur of Gregminster to the battle-scarred landscapes of Suikoden 2. A new in-game gallery provides access to music, cutscenes, and an event viewer, allowing players to revisit cherished moments.

This remaster goes beyond a simple visual update. The infamous shortened Luca Blight cutscene from the PSP version of Suikoden 2 has been restored to its original length. Minor dialogue adjustments have been made to reflect contemporary sensibilities, such as removing Richmond's smoking habit in Suikoden 2.

The Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster is scheduled for release on March 6, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Prepare to experience these timeless classics in a whole new light.
