Mastering Dragon Quest III: HD-2D Remake: Essential Tips for New Players

For fans of classic JRPGs, Dragon Quest III: HD-2D Remake is a nostalgic trip back to the series' roots. However, its old-school difficulty demands strategic planning. This guide offers key tips to help you conquer Baramos.

Navigate the Personality Test Wisely

The initial personality quiz, administered by "She Who Watches Over All," dictates your Hero's stat growth. While personality changes are possible with specific accessories, restarting for your ideal personality is simpler. The "Vamp" personality, exclusive to female Heroes, offers the best stat boosts.

Customize Your Party for Success

In Aliahan, bypass Patty's pre-set party. On the second floor, you can create a custom team with classes Patty doesn't offer, allocate stats, and influence personalities for superior party members. Crucially, always include a Priest for essential healing magic.

Acquire Powerful Early-Game Weapons

Early access to strong weapons is crucial due to equipment costs. Prioritize the Boomerang (found in Dreamer's Tower, 3rd floor) and the Thorn Whip (obtained in Aliahan's well using two Mini Medals). These weapons' multi-enemy attack capability makes them invaluable for the Hero and a strong physical damage dealer. Four Mini Medals are readily available early in the game.

Take Direct Control of Your Party

Utilize the in-combat Tactics menu to switch your party's AI behavior to "Follow Orders." This allows direct control over your party members' actions, a significant advantage in intense battles.

Stock Up on Chimaera Wings

Early enemies can inflict heavy damage. Before unlocking the Zoom spell (around level 8), keep Chimaera Wings handy for quick travel to previously visited locations, even within dungeons. At only 25 gold each, they're a worthwhile investment to prevent party wipes.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
