Ratatan, the highly anticipated spiritual successor to the beloved Patapon series, has just released its official gameplay trailer, offering fans an exciting glimpse into the game's mechanics and features. During IGN Fan Fest Day 2 2025, Ratatan Works unveiled this thrilling trailer, which showcases the game's unique blend of rhythm roguelike action.

The trailer features intense gameplay, including a battle against a giant boss crab, highlighting the game's rhythm-based combat and side-scrolling action. Ratatan promises an immersive experience with online co-op support for up to 4 players, allowing for epic battles with up to 100 characters on screen.

Developed by the mastermind behind Patapon, Hiroyuki Kotani, and with original music by Kemmei Adachi, Ratatan has already achieved significant milestones. Its successful Kickstarter campaign in 2023 met its console launch stretch goal, ensuring its availability on multiple platforms.

Closed Beta Begins on February 27, 2025

Ratatan's closed beta is set to kick off on February 27, 2025, as announced on their Kickstarter page. Kazuto Sakajiri, the game's producer, shared updates on the game's progress, revealing that Ratatan has surpassed 100,000 wishlists on Steam and garnered positive feedback on the Ratatan Original Soundtrack Demo.

While the game will not participate in the upcoming Steam Next Fest, the team is focusing on refining the demo for the festival in June. The closed beta will initially include gameplay up to Stage 1, with Stages 2 and 3 being added throughout the month-long test period. Sakajiri emphasized that details on code distribution, start dates, and times will be shared via Discord and X as soon as they are finalized.

Ratatan is slated for a 2025 release across multiple platforms, including PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. While an exact release date has yet to be announced, anticipation continues to build for this exciting new title.
