Peter Parker Battles Godzilla in Epic Showdown

Marvel is set to explore the thrilling scenario of Godzilla rampaging through its universe in a series of one-shot crossover specials, and IGN has the exclusive reveal of the third issue in this series - Godzilla vs. Spider-Man #1.

Following the releases of Godzilla vs. Fantastic Four #1 in March and Godzilla vs. Hulk #1 in April, Godzilla vs. Spider-Man #1 continues the trend of throwback stories set in earlier decades. This particular issue is set post-1984's Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars, where Peter Parker, having just returned from Battleworld, is dealing with the effects of bonding with an alien symbiote costume. As Godzilla descends upon the city, Spider-Man will need to harness every bit of his enhanced strength to protect his home.

Written by Joe Kelly, who is also spearheading the upcoming relaunch of The Amazing Spider-Man series, Godzilla vs. Spider-Man #1 features artwork by Nick Bradshaw, known for his work on Wolverine and the X-Men. The cover art is a collaborative effort by Bradshaw, Lee Garbett, and Greg Land.

Joe Kelly expressed his excitement about the project to IGN, stating, "The second I heard that there was going to be a Godzilla x Spidey crossover set in the ‘80s, I almost leapt across the table to claim it. This book is a chance to go nuts and have a blast with two iconic characters and channel the chaos of the time period that I was actively collecting Spider-Man. Nick Bradshaw really captures the absurdity of the concept and the vibe I was going for, while at the same time giving Godzilla and Spidey (in his perfectly-normal-nothing-weird-here-black suit!) the prestige and gravity they deserve. It's a love letter served with an earth-shattering roar!"

This crossover isn't the first time Godzilla has clashed with Western superheroes; DC Comics recently released Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong, with a sequel on the horizon. However, while DC's series focused on the MonsterVerse versions of Godzilla and King Kong, Marvel's issues celebrate the classic Toho Godzilla.

The announcement of Godzilla vs. Spider-Man #1 follows closely on the heels of IDW's Godzilla vs. Los Angeles #1, an anthology special that will donate its proceeds to wildfire relief efforts.
