Outer Worlds 2 Development Update: Smooth Sailing Despite ChallengesObsidian Entertainment's CEO, Feargus Urquhart, recently provided a positive update on the development of The Outer Worlds 2, confirming the sequel is progressing well, despite past challenges. This comes alongside updates on their other projects, including the highly anticipated fantasy RPG, Avowed.

Obsidian's Confidence in Upcoming Releases

In a YouTube interview with Limit Break Network, Urquhart expressed his satisfaction with the *Outer Worlds 2* team, highlighting their experience and dedication. He emphasized the team's understanding of the game, having many veterans from the first title involved.

The studio openly acknowledged the difficulties encountered during the COVID-19 pandemic and the period following their acquisition by Microsoft. Managing simultaneous projects like Grounded and Pentiment, while also developing Avowed and progressing Outer Worlds 2, proved extremely demanding. Urquhart admitted a period of strained development, even mentioning internal discussions about potentially halting Outer Worlds 2 to focus resources on Avowed. However, Obsidian ultimately persevered, maintaining development across all titles.

Outer Worlds 2 Development Update: Smooth Sailing Despite Challenges"We were acquired, then navigated the acquisition process, and then COVID hit," Urquhart recalled. "We were simultaneously trying to finish Outer Worlds, its DLC, advance Avowed, restart Outer Worlds 2, keep Grounded moving, and Josh was working on Pentiment."

Despite the hurdles, Urquhart highlighted the successful outcomes of Grounded and Pentiment, and expressed confidence in the progress of Avowed and the impressive state of The Outer Worlds 2. While specific game details remained undisclosed, the recent delay of Avowed to 2025 suggests potential timeline adjustments for other projects.

Outer Worlds 2 Development Update: Smooth Sailing Despite ChallengesAnnounced in 2021, The Outer Worlds 2 has seen limited updates. Urquhart acknowledged this and the possibility of a launch delay, similar to Avowed. However, he reaffirmed Obsidian's commitment to delivering high-quality games. "We'll deliver on all these games," he stated. "Will they meet the original timelines? No. But we'll get there, and our recent successes prove that." Both Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2 are slated for release on PC and Xbox Series S/X.
