MultiVersus to Conclude Operations After Season 5

Warner Bros. Games has announced the upcoming closure of MultiVersus, effective May 30, 2025. The announcement, made via the official Twitter (X) account on January 31, 2025, confirmed that Season 5 will be the game's final season. A blog post on the official website detailed the decision, stating that Season 5 will be the last content update.

Season 5: A Final Farewell

Season 5, running from February 4, 2025 to May 30, 2025, will introduce two new playable characters: Aquaman (DC) and Lola Bunny (Looney Tunes). These characters, along with all other Season 5 content, will be unlockable through gameplay. Following the conclusion of Season 5, MultiVersus will be removed from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store. No official reason for the shutdown has been provided.

Offline Play Option Remains

A local gameplay mode will allow offline play, either solo against AI or with up to three friends. To access this, players must download the latest version of the game between February 4th, 9 AM PST and May 30th, 9 AM PDT. The game will automatically create a local save file linked to the player's online account, preserving earned and purchased content.

Real-money transactions ceased on January 31, 2025. Any remaining Gleamium (in-game currency) can be used until the end of Season 5.

A Brief History and Community Thanks

Launched in July 2022 as a free-to-play fighting game, MultiVersus quickly gained popularity, drawing comparisons to Super Smash Bros. A relaunch in May 2024 introduced new features, including characters, rollback netcode, and a PvE mode. However, despite these improvements, persistent technical issues, disconnections, and microtransaction concerns reportedly led to a significant player drop-off.

At its closure, MultiVersus will boast a roster of 35 playable characters. Player First Games and Warner Bros. expressed gratitude for the community's support.

MultiVersus remains available for download on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC until May 30, 2025.
