MultiVersus to End Service Post-Season 5 in May

Author:Kristen Update:Apr 15,2025

Player First Games has announced that Season 5 of MultiVersus will mark the end of the Warner Bros. platform fighting game, with the final shutdown scheduled for May 30, 2025, at 9 a.m. PST. The studio shared this news through a detailed blog post on their website, signaling the conclusion of support for the crossover brawler that initially launched on May 28 of the previous year. Season 5 is set to kick off next week on February 4 and will run until the game's end date in May 2025. At that point, online play will cease, but Player First Games assures players that all earned and purchased content will remain accessible in offline modes, including local gameplay and training.

The MultiVersus team expressed their gratitude, stating, "Most importantly, we want to thank every player and person who has ever played or supported MultiVersus. All of us on the Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games teams have poured our heart and soul into this game. We will be forever grateful for the incredible support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey."

Player First Games has also ceased real-money transactions for MultiVersus as of today, although players can still use Gleamium and character tokens to access in-game content until the support ends on May 30. The game will be removed from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store at the same time.

The decision to end MultiVersus comes after Warner Bros. Discovery reported significant financial losses, with the game labeled as a major disappointment. In a November financial call, the company disclosed a $100 million writedown related to MultiVersus' underperformance, contributing to a total of $300 million in losses for the year in the games sector, following the launch of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League in January. Additionally, Warner Bros. Games head David Haddad is set to leave the company after a challenging 2024, as reported by Variety last week.

"We took another $100 million plus impairment due to the underperforming releases, primarily MultiVersus this quarter, bringing total writedown year-to-date to over $300 million in our games business, a key factor in this year’s studio profit decline,” stated chief financial officer Gunnar Wiedenfels during the November call.

Despite the upcoming shutdown just days after its one-year anniversary, Season 5 promises to go out with a flourish. Alongside the typical new content that seasonal updates offer, players can look forward to the addition of new characters Lola Bunny and Aquaman. Both will be available starting next week, with Lola Bunny unlockable as a daily calendar reward and Aquaman accessible through the battle pass.
