Basic Information

Elytra are unique, rare items allowing players to glide. They significantly enhance exploration efficiency, especially when combined with fireworks. In their folded state, they resemble a cloak; unfolded, they’re magnificent wings. They are naturally found only in the End after defeating the Ender Dragon, located within ships near End Cities. However, alternative methods exist for acquiring them in different game modes, detailed below.

Obtaining Elytra in Minecraft Survival Mode

Preparing for Battle

Before venturing to the End, thorough preparation is crucial. Diamond or Netherite armor, ideally enchanted for protection, is essential. A well-enchanted sword and bow (consider Infinity or Power for the bow) are vital for combat. Stock up on plenty of arrows or a crossbow with fireworks for ranged attacks. Potions of regeneration, strength, and slow falling provide significant advantages. Golden apples offer crucial emergency healing, and blocks are needed to reach End Crystals. A carved pumpkin protects against Endermen aggression.

Activating the Portal to the End

Activating the End portal requires 12 Eyes of Ender. Each Eye requires Blaze Powder (from Blaze Rods dropped by Blazes in Nether Fortresses) and an Ender Pearl (dropped by Endermen). Crafting an Eye of Ender is straightforward (see image below).

Finding the Stronghold

Use Eyes of Ender to locate the Stronghold. Throw an Eye; it will fly towards the Stronghold, indicating its direction. Once located, navigate the Stronghold's perilous underground passages. Find the End portal room and place Eyes of Ender in the frame to activate the portal.

Battle with the Dragon

Defeat the Ender Dragon by first destroying the End Crystals (using a bow or melee combat). Then focus on the dragon itself. After its defeat, a portal to the End gateway appears. Throw an Ender Pearl into it to teleport.

Inside the Ship

Locate the End City's ships. These are guarded by Shulkers; defeat them first. Inside the ship, break the Item Frame containing the Elytra.
