Author:Kristen Update:Apr 15,2025

If you had any doubt that *Rune Slayer* isn’t an MMORPG, here’s your proof: it has fishing. And as we all know, if a game has fishing, it’s officially an MMORPG. Kidding aside, you’re here to learn how fishing works in *Rune Slayer*, and we’re here to help. Yeah, we had trouble with this, too, but we eventually figured it out and are happy to tell you how to catch fish in *Rune Slayer*. Spoiler Alert: It definitely isn’t as intuitive as in *Fisch*.

Before you start reeling in those fish, make sure to accept the fishing quest from Simon the Fisherman, the white-haired NPC you'll find at one of the piers where the Baracuda is swimming. Simon's quest involves catching 5 “fish,” and in return, he'll reward you with a Tackle Box (we’ll get to those quotation marks later).

Here’s the catch: to start fishing, you'll need a fishing rod and some bait/tackle. Conveniently, Simon the Fisherman has exactly what you need.

So, purchase a Wood Fishing Rod and some Worms from Simon. Most players suggest having at least 5 worms, but we opted for 10 to be safe. Before you ask, NO, you cannot equip the bait. The Worms simply need to be in your inventory; even though you don’t equip them, they're consumed when you fish. Each time you catch a fish, one Worm will automatically be removed from your inventory.

Here's the crucial detail: you won’t catch any fish unless you have at least 5 bait items in your inventory. We tried with just one Worm initially and caught nothing. But once we had 5 Worms, we started reeling in fish. We recommend keeping the Worms in your hot bar to monitor your supply easily. Once you’re equipped with all this, you’re ready for the next step.

First, select your Wood Fishing Rod. You can’t equip it traditionally, so just move it to your hotbar or access it from your inventory, and your character will ready it in both hands.

Hold M1 to cast your line, ensuring it lands in a body of water (the pier next to Simon the Fisherman works well).

Now, keep an eye on the bobber. When you see it ripple once or twice, click M1 again to reel in your catch. That’s the basic technique.

However, this method isn't foolproof. Often, you won’t catch anything, and other times, you might pull up junk. The good news is Simon considers junk as a catch (hence the earlier quotation marks around “fish”).

So, your task is to cast your line, wait for the ripples, hit M1, and reel in anything five times. We managed to catch only two actual fish, the rest being Old Cups.

Once you’ve caught 5 “fish”, return to Simon the Fisherman to complete the quest. He’ll reward you with a tackle box. Open it and store your remaining worms inside to save inventory space.
