Marvel Snap has returned and developers wish to switch publishers

On January 19th, a temporary shutdown of TikTok in the US unexpectedly impacted Marvel Snap, the popular card game developed by Second Dinner Studios and published by Nuverse, a ByteDance subsidiary. The game went offline for 24 hours before being restored, though in-app purchases remain unavailable.

This disruption, according to an official Platform X statement, stems from the political risks surrounding TikTok's ongoing negotiations to sell a 50% stake to a US-based entity. The 90-day extension granted for this sale leaves Marvel Snap vulnerable to future disruptions if the deal fails. To mitigate this risk, the developers are exploring a publisher change and transitioning some services to internal resources.

Second Dinner Studios has promised further updates. While many players experienced authorization issues, PC users via Steam remained unaffected. The developers expressed surprise at the event and are actively working to fully restore the game, assuring players via Platform X: “Marvel Snap is here to stay. We're working hard to restore the game as quickly as possible, and we'll keep players informed of our progress.” The lack of prior warning, particularly concerning the impact on in-game purchases, has drawn significant player criticism.
