Lara Croft Joins Dead by Daylight

Lara Croft is officially coming to Dead by Daylight, Behaviour Interactive has announced. It had long been speculated that Tomb Raider's protagonist would be joining Dead by Daylight's Survivor roster soon, but Behaviour has now put the rumors to rest. Just over a month after the release of Chapter 32: Dungeons & Dragons, Dead by Daylight is set to welcome one of gaming history's most prominent heroines and one who enriched many gamers' childhoods.

Earlier this month, Dead by Daylight introduced The Lich, better known as Vecna, who originated from the Dungeons & Dragons franchise before becoming a mainstream villain in Netflix's Stranger Things. Before that, Behaviour rolled out the red carpet treatment for Chucky, the antagonist of Child's Play, and Alan Wake, from the action-adventure franchise of the same name. Now, Dead by Daylight turns the spotlight on Lara Croft, a character created by Toby Gard for Core Design's Tomb Raider, which was released in 1996.

Dead by Daylight: Lara Croft will be available on all platforms on July 16, but PC players can get early access to the public test build on Steam. Despite an official release date for Lara Croft's character in Dead by Daylight, Behaviour has yet to unveil a trailer to showcase the character's skills, which means PC players will be the first to experience Lara Croft in-game, perks and all. Lara Croft is being referred to as "the ultimate survivor" by the Behavior team, possibly due to her reputation for embarking on perilous journeys, and the Entity's Realm is no different from her usual life-threatening odysseys. Lara's model will be fashioned after the Survivor trilogy, specifically the 2013 reboot.

Lara Croft Coming to Dead by Daylight on July 16

Aside from the news of Lara Croft's impending arrival, Behaviour Interactive recently announced a few more surprises as part of a livestream for Dead by Daylight's 8th anniversary. Namely, an upcoming 2v8 mode, featuring two Killers facing eight Survivors; The Casting of Frank Stone, a spin-off by The Quarry developer Supermassive Games; and a new Castlevania chapter, coming later this year.

Earlier this year, Aspyr released Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered, a compilation of Core Design's three original Tomb Raider games: Tomb Raider, Tomb Raider 2, and Tomb Raider 3. In addition, Tomb Raider: Legend received a PS5 port, although fans aren't particularly satisfied with the quality of it. But Lara Croft fever doesn't stop there, as the character is also appearing in a new animated TV series called Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, scheduled for release in October 2024. The MCU's own Peggy Carter, Hayley Atwell, will provide the voice of Lara.
