Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Player Numbers Break Records Again and Again

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has been shattering its concurrent player records on Steam every day since its release. Dive into the details of the game's phenomenal success and what's on the horizon for its future updates.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's Opening Weekend Success

250,000+ Concurrent Steam Players And Counting

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) has achieved a staggering peak of over 250,000 concurrent players on Steam as of February 9, 2025. Creative Director Daniel Vávra shared on Twitter (X) that the game hit a new high with 256,206 players simultaneously online. Since its launch, KCD2 has set new concurrent player records each day:

  • February 4: 159,351 concurrent Steam players
  • February 5: 176,285 concurrent Steam players
  • February 6: 185,582 concurrent Steam players
  • February 7: 190,194 concurrent Steam players
  • February 8: 233,586 concurrent Steam players
  • February 9: 256,206 concurrent Steam players

Reports suggest that KCD2 has sold approximately 890,000 copies on Steam alone. Currently, it ranks as the 2nd top-selling game on Steam, trailing only behind Counter-Strike 2, and is the 5th most-played game, following CS2, Dota 2, Marvel Rivals, and Banana.

The game sold 1 million copies on its launch day, and with the estimated Steam sales, it's on track to reach 2 million copies sold soon.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's Attention To Detail

The success of KCD2's opening weekend can be attributed to Warhorse Studios' meticulous attention to detail, enhancing immersion and enjoyment for players. Known for its commitment to realism, the series continues to push boundaries with features like food spoilage, the need for clothing and armor maintenance, and constant sword sharpening. KCD2 introduces even more immersive elements to transport players to a 15th-century medieval world.

Senior Game Designer Ondřej Bittner shared with GamesRadar a new stealth mechanic where players can accumulate dirt and grime, leading to a debuff. "If you get the debuff that, you know, your body odour, you smell. There's like a circle around you," Bittner explained. "Basically, you're broadcasting, like, I'm here."

The game also introduces "handgonnes," a historically accurate depiction of early firearms. Bittner told PC Gamer that these weapons are challenging to use, have long reload times, are inaccurate, and can be unsafe for the user. "So we knew it was going to be a meme weapon, but we were cool with it," he admitted.

KCD2 PR Manager Tobias Stolz-Zwilling emphasized their focus on authenticity over hyperaccuracy. "We want to have an intriguing and cool and fun and nice videogame. However, we try extremely hard to make it as authentic as possible. We double check the stuff, so that when the player plays it, or whenever someone checks it, that the things that are listed in there are at least plausible," he stated.

Post-Launch Roadmap
