Once Human Breaks Records with 230K Peak Players

Author:Kristen Update:Dec 11,2024

NetEase's post-apocalyptic survival game, Once Human, achieved a remarkable 230,000 peak concurrent players on Steam following its PC debut. This impressive figure secured it the seventh spot on the Steam top sellers list and fifth place in the most-played rankings. However, this initial surge highlights a potential player decline shortly after launch.

The game, slated for a September mobile release, has already announced exciting upcoming content. This includes a PvP mode pitting the Mayflies and Rosetta factions against each other, and a new PvE area in a challenging northern mountain region, introducing fresh enemies and challenges. Once Human, set in a world ravaged by a catastrophic event leading to otherworldly phenomena, is a highly anticipated title from NetEase.

Intriguingly, despite its apparent readiness, NetEase has delayed the mobile launch, although it remains scheduled for September. Despite the delay and the observed player drop-off from the initial peak, the game maintains its strong position in the Steam charts.

A Cause for Concern? The 230,000 figure represents a peak player count, suggesting the average player base may be lower. This post-launch dip, especially considering the game's initial Steam wishlist count of under 300,000, might signal a challenge for NetEase. While NetEase's expertise lies in mobile gaming, its ambitious push into the PC market with Once Human might prove more challenging than anticipated, given the need to quickly adapt to a new audience.
