GTA 6 PC Release Hinted To Come At A Later Date

The future of Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) on PC remains unconfirmed, but recent statements from Take-Two Interactive's CEO, Strauss Zelnick, suggest a potential PC release down the line. Dive into the latest developments and what this could mean for GTA 6's future.

GTA 6 on PC: Unconfirmed, Yet Teased

While Grand Theft Auto 6 has not been officially announced for PC, hints from Take-Two Interactive's CEO Strauss Zelnick during an interview with IGN on February 10, 2025, suggest that a PC version could be on the horizon. Zelnick mentioned that their upcoming title, Civilization 7, will launch on both console and PC, but other games in their portfolio, including those from Rockstar Games, typically follow a staggered release strategy.

He noted, "Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms." This pattern was evident with GTA 5, which debuted on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013, followed by PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November 2014, and finally on PC in April 2015. Similarly, Red Dead Redemption 2 launched on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in October 2018, with a PC release following in November 2019.

Although no concrete confirmation has been given for GTA 6 on PC, Zelnick's comments imply a strong interest in eventually bringing the game to the platform. Fans had hoped for a simultaneous PC launch, given the game's anticipated scale, but it seems they may need to wait a bit longer.

Take-Two's Confidence in GTA 6's Multiplatform Success

Zelnick highlighted the growing significance of the PC market, noting that PC versions of multiplatform games can account for up to 40% of total sales. He emphasized, "We have seen PC become a much more and more important part of what used to be a console business, and I wouldn't be surprised to see that trend continue."

Despite reports of declining console sales for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Zelnick remains optimistic about GTA 6's performance across all platforms. He believes the game will not only sell well but also boost console sales for Sony and Xbox. "When you have a big title in the market and we have many of them coming, historically that has sold consoles," he stated.

He further added, "And I think that will happen this year. I don't think tariffs are going to be our friend, but I think there will be a meaningful uptick in console sales in calendar 25 because of the release schedule, not just coming from us, but coming from others. So I'm not concerned about that [console sales falling]. I think the trend that you'd want to focus on is this increasing share of the market that is reflected in PC."

GTA 6 is slated for a Fall 2025 release, though no specific date has been announced. Keep an eye on our Grand Theft Auto 6 page for the latest updates.

During the Take-Two Interactive Q3 Fiscal Conference Call on February 6, 2025, Zelnick expressed enthusiasm about bringing their games to the upcoming Switch 2 console. He acknowledged their long-standing relationship with Nintendo and noted, "We've had obviously a long-standing relationship with Nintendo, and we've supported the platform when it made sense for the individual release."

Zelnick pointed out that the Switch's audience has evolved, stating, "the Switch device can support any audience." With Civilization 7 already confirmed for the Switch, he added, "As you may have noted, Civilization 7 is now on Switch. So while we have nothing specific to report, we actually would fully expect to support Switch."
