"Dune: Awakening Dev Confirms Full Launch Date, No Subscription, Optional DLCs"

Funcom, the developer behind the much-anticipated multiplayer survival game Dune: Awakening, has recently shared significant updates on the game's business model and its post-launch strategy. Set to launch fully on May 20, Dune: Awakening will not follow the Early Access route, providing players with a complete experience right from the start. Inspired by Frank Herbert's iconic sci-fi novel and its cinematic adaptations, the game promises an immersive world without the need for a subscription, despite its classification as an MMO.

The studio plans to enhance Dune: Awakening through continuous free updates, introducing new content, features, and improvements. Additionally, Funcom will adopt a "classic business model" that includes optional DLCs, similar to their approach with other successful titles like Anarchy Online and Conan Exiles. These games continue to receive free updates and expansions years after their initial release, a tradition Funcom assures will continue with Dune: Awakening.

The game offers three editions at launch: the Standard Edition at $49.99, the Deluxe Edition at $69.99, and the Ultimate Edition at $89.99. Both the Deluxe and Ultimate Editions grant players a five-day head start and exclusive items. The Deluxe Edition includes the armor of the Sardaukar, the feared military unit within the game's universe. The Ultimate Edition encompasses all Deluxe Edition content and adds Paul Atreides' iconic stillsuit from the 2021 film, a digital artbook, a digital soundtrack, unique color patterns, and the Caladan Palace Set, complete with building pieces, placeables, and decorations.

Pre-ordering any edition rewards players with a universal color pattern applicable to vehicles, weapons, and armor, along with the Terrarium of Muad’Dib, an in-base decoration featuring the famous desert mouse from the Dune universe.
