How Doom 2099 Functions in Marvel Snap

Doom 2099 is a 4-cost, 2-power card with a unique ability: "After each turn, add a DoomBot 2099 to a random location if you played (exactly) 1 card." These DoomBot 2099s (also 4-cost, 2-power) provide an ongoing buff: "Ongoing: Your other DoomBots and Doom have +1 Power." Crucially, this buff applies to both DoomBot 2099s and regular Doctor Doom cards.

The strategy centers around playing exactly one card per turn. Early deployment of Doom 2099 leads to three DoomBot 2099s, significantly boosting power. Playing Doctor Doom on the final turn further amplifies this effect. Under ideal conditions, Doom 2099 effectively becomes a 17-power card, with even greater potential through early plays or Magik's game extension.

However, Doom 2099 isn't without weaknesses. The random placement of DoomBot 2099s can backfire, potentially handing your opponent the advantage. Furthermore, Enchantress (recently buffed) completely negates the DoomBot 2099 power boost.

Top-Tier Doom 2099 Decks on Day One

Doom 2099's one-card-per-turn requirement makes it a natural fit for Spectrum Ongoing decks. Consider these options:

Deck 1: Spectrum Ongoing

Ant-Man, Goose, Psylocke, Captain America, Cosmo, Electro, Doom 2099, Wong, Klaw, Doctor Doom, Spectrum, Onslaught. [Untapped Deck Link]

This budget-friendly deck (only Doom 2099 is a Series 5 card) offers multiple win conditions. Early Doom 2099 placement via Psylocke or Electro sets the stage for massive power generation with Wong, Klaw, and Doctor Doom. Alternatively, the Electro line allows for powerful plays with Onslaught, DoomBot 2099s, and Spectrum. Cosmo protects against Enchantress, while the deck adapts to different game scenarios.

Deck 2: Patriot-Style

Ant-Man, Zabu, Dazzler, Mister Sinister, Patriot, Brood, Doom 2099, Super Skrull, Iron Lad, Blue Marvel, Doctor Doom, Spectrum. [Untapped Deck Link]

Another cost-effective deck (only Doom 2099 is Series 5), this list employs a Patriot strategy. Early game cards like Mister Sinister and Brood prepare the field for Doom 2099, followed by Blue Marvel and Doctor Doom or Spectrum. Zabu discounts 4-cost cards, providing flexibility if the Patriot strategy falters. This deck allows strategic skipping of DoomBot 2099 spawns to accommodate powerful late-game plays, but remains vulnerable to Enchantress. Super Skrull counters other Doom 2099 decks.

Is Doom 2099 Worth the Investment?

While Daken and Miek (released alongside Doom 2099) are relatively weak, Doom 2099 himself is a worthwhile acquisition. His power and deck-building versatility make him a likely meta staple. Use Collector's Tokens if possible, but don't hesitate to invest in this potentially game-changing card. Unless nerfed, Doom 2099 is poised to become one of Marvel Snap's most iconic cards.
