Baldur's Gate 3's Patch 7: A Million Mods and Counting!

Larian Studios' highly anticipated Patch 7 for Baldur's Gate 3 has unleashed a tidal wave of community-created mods. The response has been phenomenal, with an astonishing number of downloads in record time.

Larian CEO Swen Vincke tweeted that over one million mods were installed within 24 hours of the patch's September 5th release. This was further amplified by mod.io founder Scott Reismanis, who reported that the install count has since surged past three million and is still climbing. "Modding is pretty big," Vincke aptly stated.

Patch 7's impact extends beyond the sheer volume of mods. It introduced significant features including new evil endings, improved split-screen, and Larian's own integrated Mod Manager. This streamlined tool allows players to seamlessly browse, install, and manage mods without leaving the game.

The standalone modding toolkit, available on Steam, empowers creators to craft their own narratives using Larian's Osiris scripting language. Modders can utilize custom scripts, perform basic debugging, and directly publish their creations.

Cross-Platform Modding on the Horizon

While Larian initially limited access to its full development tools, a community-created "BG3 Toolkit Unlocked" (by modder Siegfre on Nexus) has expanded modding capabilities, including a level editor and reactivated features. Vincke confirmed Larian's commitment to cross-platform modding, acknowledging the considerable technical challenges involved in supporting both PC and consoles. The PC version will lead the way, with console support following after thorough testing and certification.

Beyond modding, Patch 7 boasts numerous improvements: refined UI, enhanced animations, expanded dialogue options, and substantial bug fixes and performance optimizations. With more updates planned, the future of Baldur's Gate 3 modding looks incredibly bright.
