Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Max Level and Rank Cap Revealed

Author:Kristen Update:Mar 31,2025

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* stands out as one of the most expansive entries in the franchise to date, featuring a robust progression system that matches its scale. Here's a detailed look at the maximum levels in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows* and how the level cap functions.

What Is the Max XP Level in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* introduces a revamped progression system that blends traditional XP-based leveling with a new Knowledge Rank system. While XP progression allows you to unlock higher-tier weapons, armor, and gear, as well as enhance Naoe and Yasuke's base stats, reaching Level 35 is sufficient to explore all the available Japanese provinces. However, the grind doesn't stop there. Initially believed to cap at Level 40 based on Ubisoft's pre-launch insights, players can actually reach up to Level 60. There's a strong possibility that this level cap will increase further with the upcoming *Claws of Awaji* expansion, set to release post-launch.

The Knowledge Rank system represents a significant evolution in the *Assassin’s Creed* franchise's approach to progression. Distinct from XP leveling, Knowledge Ranks are advanced by accumulating Knowledge Points through various open-world activities focused on mindfulness and training. As you progress through these ranks, new skills become available for Naoe and Yasuke, though you'll need to unlock and spend Mastery Points to access them.

To unlock all available skills, players must reach Knowledge Rank 6. However, this isn't the end of the journey. Upon reaching this rank, Naoe and Yasuke unlock a new Knowledge tree, offering several passive skills to further customize your play style.

Is There a Cap for Mastery in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

Mastery is the third pillar of progression in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, serving as the game's skill point equivalent. It's essential for unlocking new skills across the six Mastery trees available for each protagonist. The cost of unlocking skills varies, with some requiring more Mastery Points than others.

While there's a vast array of skills to unlock, Mastery Points can be earned through a wide range of activities, ensuring ample opportunities to gather what you need. Although there's a theoretical limit to Mastery Points, reaching it would require extensive gameplay. The *Claws of Awaji* expansion, slated for later in 2025, is expected to introduce new ways to earn Mastery Points.

Does Assassin’s Creed Shadows Have Level Scaling?

In *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, each province in Japan has an associated level. At the game's start, the highest level requirement is for Kii, set at Level 35. As you advance and gain XP, the levels of some regions will adjust to match yours.

However, there's a cap on how high enemy and province difficulty levels can scale beyond Level 40. From Level 42 onwards, the recommended level for each province remains two levels below your current XP level. This ensures the game remains challenging and maintains a balanced combat pace in the endgame, rewarding players who invest significant time into the game.

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* is now available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
